The Law Firm of Hartung & Schroeder LLP is located in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. Attorneys J.D. Hartung (J.D. Drake University '92), Brad Schroeder (J.D. University of Iowa '97) and Jon Garner (J.D. The Law Firm of Hartung & Schroeder, LLP is located on the street level of the historic Equitable Building in downtown Des Moines. Partners J. D. Hartung and Brad Schroeder are general litigation attorneys who represent clients in a wide variety of practice areas, including Family Law, Business Law, and Personal Injury Litigation. An advantage of being a small firm, Schroeder says, is increased flexibility. “We regularly take on new matters that came to us because of conflict-of-interest issues at other firms.” Hartung says that similarly, they don’t have strict limitations on the types of work they will do. “We don’t turn people away because of ‘firm policy.’ If someone needs help, and it’s a good fit for us, we’ll do it.” In fact, the firm handles everything from traffic tickets to complex civil litigation. Hartung represents many local businesses in what he calls “behind the scenes” business organization, development and litigation matters, while Schroeder has recently been “out front” in a pending class-action lawsuit challenging the City of Des Moines’ unlawful utility franchise tax charged to Mid-American Energy customers. “We strive to serve clients as we would want to be served – honestly and aggressively.” He adds, “It’s a variation of The Golden Rule, but it also adequately captures how we as lawyers should value our relationship with our clients.”
